10 Ways Home Shopping is like Online DATING

So much of our lives are online nowadays.  Our clubs aren’t held in basements or bars, they are online.  We meet people with similar interests by joining groups in Facebook or following someone’s story on Snapchat.  YouTube is how we learn to do almost everything….girls learn to do their hair and make up from YouTube instead of their mom or cousins.  Simple home maintenance tasks can be learned there, or recipes  for your family.  We can all be sorry things aren’t done like they used to be…but we also aren’t visiting our family and neighbors…we just go online.  Even when we are together, what are we all doing?

When it comes to dating…online is the most popular option around.  When you look for a date online you have to put in parameters, just like when you look for a house….right?  That isn’t where the similarities end…here are 10 other ways home shopping and online dating are just alike!

The real thing can be different than appearances online!
  1. Knowing your price range is like knowing who is in your league.  Let’s be realistic here.
  2. Be prepared for a relationship…or a home purchase.  Make sure you are pre-qualified and either ready to break your lease or coming to the end of it…or make sure you are over your ex…no need to waste anyone’s time.
  3. Often homes look WAAAYYYY better online than they do in real life…just like potential dates.
  4. If they are advertising as EASY…you know that usually means SLEAZY…like Opendoor homes or sexting before the first date.
  5. You need to do some investigating.  The house, or the person might be just as awesome in person as they appeared to be online…but you need to make sure they aren’t covering something up.  Dig deep…do LOTS of inspections, or investigations.  Hire professionals before you make a decision you could really regret.  Make sure you really know the other person if you are considering committing!
  6. It is rare to know right away that you have found THE ONE…but sometimes it’s your first date, or the first house you see.  When you know, make sure you lock it up, with a ring….or a contract!

    Put a ring on it!
  7. Ask your friends, your mom, your real estate agent for their opinion.   Are you being snowed by the sparkling blue pool or the adorable twinkle in their eyes over the candlelight…and really this is just a pig with lipstick on?  Maybe.  Ask your most honest friends what they think…not the ones that might be a little jelly.  If you don’t have friends like this, use me as your agent…I’m always honest!  Brutally sometimes.
  8. Once you commit, stick to your commitment.  Don’t do anything stupid, like have a one night stand….or make a large purchase while you’re in escrow.  Now is not the time to get crazy…eyes on the prize!
  9. Once you close on your house, or walk down the aisle…CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
  10. But the work doesn’t stop here….keep doing all you can to keep your partner happy and take care of your new home.  Keeping up with maintenance, and never ignoring problems is the way to create a healthy relationship….and a great home that will be an asset to you and your family!!
Take care of your home, and each other!

If you are ready to find your perfect home…let me know, and I can share my brutal honesty with you too!!
